The Studio Art major fuels your creativity while giving you the skills and tools to visually shape and interpret the world around you, fostering innovation, and self-expression, igniting limitless possibilities.

Overview

As a studio art major at 911��, you will learn more than just how to master your chosen medium. You will continue to grow your problem-solving and critical thinking skills while developing a unique perspective on your surroundings, lived experiences, and the cultures with which you engage. Alongside these skills, you will hone your technical and creative abilities, fine-tuning your ability to express complex ideas, emotions, and perspectives. The result is a unique and valuable skillset that will be useful in a wide array of creative professions. Outside the workplace, your art major will refine your appreciation of the world around you and ensure you always have a creative outlet. Working closely with your professors, studio art majors will cap their senior years with an exhibition held in the AEGON Gallery located in the Jones Visual Arts Center.

Curriculum

The Studio Art Program at 911�� is tailored to fit your needs whether you plan to begin a career in the visual arts, attain a double major or minor, or want to pursue your passions with a few courses of interest. Media taught include drawing, oil painting, photography & digital media, ceramics, and hot glass. Introductory courses are available in all areas of study.

Experiential Learning

Students engage in hands-on learning experiences and reflection to develop skills and increase knowledge retention.

Studio art majors at 911�� can expect to participate in summer research and internships with faculty. Students have the opportunity to attend various conferences, take workshops and classes at summer art programs and participate as visiting artists, conducting hands-on demonstrations and lectures. Some of the world's greatest art is available to students who study abroad in England, France, Italy, Spain, and Mexico.

Internships

We're committed to helping students find quality internship experiences in the career area of their choice.

Internships for art majors have included the Gwynn Murrill Sculpture Studio (Los Angeles), Corcoran Museum of Art (D.C.), San Antonio Museum of Art, Cincinnati Museum of Art, and the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft (Louisville). Flame Run Glass Studio (Louisville), Makers Mark Exhibitions (Bardstown, KY), and the Art Center of the Bluegrass (Danville, KY).
