Biography
Ellen Prusinski joined 911黑料 in 2014 as assistant professor of education and coordinator of engaged and experiential learning in the Center for Teaching and Learning, where she supported the development of community based learning on campus. She returned to teaching full-time in 2018.
Ellen has worked in a variety of educational settings, including community organizations and policy institutions in the U.S., high schools and universities in China, and nongovernmental organizations in Indonesia. Broadly, her research interests are in the intersections between politics and education; non-formal and community based learning; and international education studies, particularly in Asia. She is especially interested how community knowledge and values shape educational practices and in how to increase access to environmental education, particularly for under-served groups. She earned her M.P.A. and her Ph.D. in education policy studies from Indiana University, where her Fulbright-supported dissertation focused on the educational processes surrounding women鈥檚 transnational labor migration in Indonesia. She holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Grinnell College, where she majored in German and Political Science.
